In 2020, a study was conducted for the development of the hiking trail network in Skiathos, aiming to showcase the island’s natural and cultural heritage. The implementation of the Skiathos Trails network was completed in 2022, offering visitors a unique hiking experience that highlights the island’s distinctive natural beauty and cultural heritage.
The network consists of 14 waymarked hiking trails covering every corner of Skiathos. Through these routes, hikers have the opportunity to explore the island’s picturesque chapels, monasteries, and forests, while traversing areas rich in biodiversity. These trails connect the coastal zones with the hinterland, providing a comprehensive view of the island’s natural beauty and authentic local life.
In 2024, the network was expanded with the addition of 8 cycling routes, offering new opportunities for cycling enthusiasts, and the creation of 5 themed cultural routes, designed by the team at the nonprofit organization Diadrasis. Furthermore, information is provided on the accessibility of hiking trails for people with disabilities, enhancing inclusion and participation for all visitors in the island’s activities.
Paths of Greece designed and implemented the Skiathos Trails project in collaboration with the Municipality of Skiathos, promoting sustainability and the development of mild tourism. This network gives hikers the chance to discover Skiathos’s hidden gems and create memories that will last a lifetime.
The network’s expansion was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Skiathos and the nonprofit organization Diadrasis, with funding from the Green Fund. Information on the accessibility of trails for people with disabilities was based on the “Guide for Accessible Nature Trails” by the National Confederation of Disabled People.
