Working together with the “Friends of the Castle of Monemvasia”, we have cleared and sign-posted and an easy and beautiful footpath that leads to the castle-city without passing from the main road. The footpath has been sign-posted with similar signs to those used by the archaeological service. The signs have been adapted though to the need of hikers. The following text has been written on the introductory signs:

“From here starts a beautiful and easy path, that leads in about 20 minutes to the castle-city of Monemvasia. In older times, this path was used by those who wished to arrive faster to the Upper Town. Along the road there are several places offering shade, ideal for resting. At about halfway, a short uphill trail leads to the ruined church of Agia Paraskevi. It is worth visiting too. The path enters Monemvasia from the upper gate of the western ramparts. This spot offers great views to the well preserved medieval houses of the citadel. From there, there will be two options. The first is to continue uphill towards the Upper Town. The second is to continue downwards through any of the narrow streets, that all lead to the main street of the Lower Town.“
